Loosening the chains: Modern Slavery Bill passes through the Commons

Modern Slavery Bill passes through the Commons
Earlier this week the Modern Slavery Bill completed its passage through the House of Commons. The government’s amendment on supply chains was accepted without a vote and is now on the face of the Bill.
Several people spoke in the debate, some of whom reflected points from the coalition’s briefing. There was a consensus across the House on the need for effective monitoring and enforcement. While the Companies Act approach was raised, the overall debate backed the call for inclusion in the Modern Slavery Bill.
The latest draft of the Bill is now available at http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/bills/lbill/2014-2015/0051/15051.pdf.
